On 4 April 2013, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) issued a press release flagging new UK consumer insurance law. The Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012 came into effect on 6 April 2013. Amongst other matters, it obliges insurers to ask all pertinent questions at point of sale and prevents insurers from declining claims for non-disclosure unless information has been deliberately/carelessly withheld or is misleading. The new rules apply to all personal insurance, irrespective of how it has been purchased.
