The completed acquisition of Game Station by Game Group was referred to the Competition Commission (CC), following concerns that the merger would reduce competition in the markets for the supply of gaming software, consoles and related accessories (computer gaming products) in the UK. The merger combined the two largest UK suppliers of new and second-hand computer gaming products. On 5 December 2007, the CC provisionally approved the merger. Two members of the CC’s inquiry group had disagreed with the decision. In order to prevent a 2:2 split verdict, the chairman exercised her casting vote to create the majority.
