On May 8, 2013, the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services sent out an updated special advisory bulletin concerning the effects of being excluded from Medicare/Medicaid and issuing guidelines for employee screening.

This is the latest in the increasingly aggressive actions of the government to rein in the costs of governmental programs through fighting fraud and abuse. All health care providers must have and follow policies regarding staffing matters and exclusions from Medicare/Medicaid in hiring and employment practices.
