4NW, the regional leaders forum for the North West, has announced the start of a consultation for the development of ‘Bridging the Gap Between Land and Sea: the North West Regional Coastal Strategy’. The decision to draft a Coastal Strategy is, it indicates, in part in response to the Government’s draft Marine Bill and is intended to be a high level document aimed at providing strategic guidance on integrated management of the coast to organisations and local authorities working in the coastal and near-shore marine areas or on related matters. 4NW stresses that is important that it is viewed as a document owned and implemented by organisations across the region, rather than as an ‘in-house’ North West Coastal Forum document. The public consultation will run until 19th December 2008.
