ERS Online service issues

HMRC have informed us that they are aware of some technical issues with the ERS online service.  They are investigating those issues as a matter of urgency, and apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.

As customers will be unable to file their annual return by the 6 July 2015 deadline HMRC will allow a further five working days to file once the system is up and running. HMRC remain committed to helping customers to file returns and have stated that they do not want to charge penalties.

Customers can still access the system to register share schemes and use the file checking service. If you have employment-related share arrangements and have not registered them please contact us now.

HMRC will give a further update on Monday 13 July.

If you have not yet registered

All plans or arrangements relating to employment related securities, whether tax-advantaged or not, must now be registered with HMRC online. The deadline for registration was 6 July 2015 and the registrations must be completed in order to allow end of year reporting.

The scope of registration is wide. For example, even a one-off share acquisition potentially needs to be registered to allow its inclusion in the employers' annual filing. A non-UK plan or arrangement will need to be registered if UK employees are included. Please contact us if you are not sure if filing is required.

If you are not sure how to complete your return

There has been a lot of focus this year on the technical aspects of populating the worksheets accompanying the online end of year return via the online system.  However, the information which needs to be included has also changed and, in some cases, it can be unclear how to complete the worksheet.  Please do contact us if you have any queries or if you have feedback on changes that you would like to see next year.
