The three bills directed at the regulation of private funds that have been introduced in the US Congress remain in committee, and little information has been disclosed regarding their progress. The lack of progress of these bills may be due to the urgency surrounding the healthcare bills that are being discussed in both the House and Senate and other legislation filling the congressional calendar. The Hedge Fund Adviser Registration Act of 2009 was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services, and the Hedge Fund Transparency Act and the Private Fund Transparency Act of 2009 were referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. The Obama administration's proposed private fund bill that was sent to Congress on July 15 has not yet been formally introduced on the floor of the Congress.
