On 11 February 2014, Insurance Ireland issued an estimate (€46 million) of the likely cost of claims from recent storm and flood damage. Information obtained from Insurance Ireland members indicated that the largest portion will relate to claims for damage to commercial property (expected to be €24 million). Almost 6,000 household claims had been submitted to members, with an estimated claims cost of €19.5 million. Insurance Ireland hopes to agree a procedure with the Office of Public Works under which insurers can obtain flood defence information/data for use in assessing flood risk in the future.
