The Off-Campus Work Permit Program allows foreign students studying in eligible post-secondary institutions to obtain a work permit which allows them to work off campus up to 20 hours per week during the school term and full-time on breaks such as summer holidays. During the summer, it was announced that the program would be extended to international students attending some private post-secondary institutions. Manitoba and Alberta have announced the implementation of pilot projects to allow for off-campus work permits through a number of private institutions in those provinces. The eligible private institutions are listed in the Announcements (see links below).

Employers in those provinces will be able to hire eligible international students who have off-campus work permits under the expanded program.
