The US government has broad powers to investigate and penalise false advertising – and those penalties can be severe

The law on false advertising protects consumers from deception regarding price, features, benefits and other material information related to advertised products and services. Several stakeholders have legal rights to enforce or otherwise make claims under false advertising laws.
