Haiti has signed the E.U.-Cariforum Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), joining the 14 Caribbean states that signed the agreement back in October 2008. The EPA aims to achieve what previous preferential trade agreements between the E.U. and Cariforum countries have failed to accomplish. Specifically, the agreement seeks to boost the Caribbean countries’ development by, forexample, removing barriers to trade between the two regions over time, boosting investment in the region and working more closely together on trade issues. The E.U. is also backing the agreement with substantial development aid.
