The Australia China Business Week 2013 opened in Melbourne today. Now in its sixth year, this annual event is a great forum for Australian businesses to learn more about doing business in China as well as providing the opportunity to strengthen business links between Australian and Chinese companies.
China's 5 Year Plan includes outbound investment and diversification, particularly in agriculture, technology, resources, healthcare and financial services. Australia is a target for this outbound investment strategy. While China is Australia's largest trading partner, staggeringly only 1% of total foreign investment in Australia comes from China. Contrast this to the 29% share held by the US. This creates opportunities for innovative Australian companies who can provide technology and know how and who can tap into and source new capital from China.
