The UK Competition Commission (CC) recently announced plans to introduce point-of-sale prohibition (POSP) on all forms of payment protection insurance (PPI). The POSP will not apply to retail PPI. This will effectively mean the end of PPI being sold in conjunction with credit products in the UK. This initiative follows a market investigation by the CC, with the main aim of addressing the lack of competition created by sale of PPI alongside credit products. It is anticipated that the key effect of the POSP will be the lowering of the net cost of credit products for customers.
