Richard Alderman, the Director of the Serious Fraud Office ('SFO'), has announced plans to use tax law in the UK to aid compliance with the Bribery Act 2010.

In accordance with the new proposals, companies under investigation will be expected to provide their tax calculations to the SFO in order to ensure that deductions for tax purposes have not been made in respect of bribes.

If, when claiming tax deductions, companies fail to remove amounts that have been paid by way of bribes then the company will be in breach of actions specifically prohibited by Parliament and suitable enforcement action will be taken against them.
