The following changes will take effect next month:  

  • The new additional paternity leave regime will apply to parents of babies expected to be born or matched for adoption from 3 April onwards.
  • On 6 April the right to request flexible working arrangements will be extended to parents of 17-year-olds.
  • The second major implementation date for the Equality Act 2010 also falls on 6 April. That is the start date for the introduction of the new single public sector equality duty, as well as the commencement date for the provision that allows limited positive discrimination in recruitment.  

However one change that was previously expected will not now happen. That is the extension of the right to request time off for training to smaller employers. It currently applies only to employees at organisations with 250 or more staff.
