40 new large scale renewable energy projects have been approved in Ontario, Canada this year, following the implementation of a feed-in tariff aimed at reducing Ontario’s reliance on coal. The programme has led to investment in renewable projects and the 40 projects should generate 872MW of power and around 7,000 jobs in the region. The 40 projects are comprised of 35 solar projects, four wind projects and one water project. It is part of an ambitious plan to eliminate coal-fired generation by the end of 2014.
