A federal court in North Carolina has reportedly sentenced a drinking water sampling service provider to a 33-month jail term for fraud. The contractor allegedly took money from 2005 to 2010 for drinking water sampling services but falsified records of the sampling and results, either not taking any sample at all or using a sample from her own faucet. The charging document asserts that the contractor used the U.S. mail in connection with the fraudulent scheme. United States v. Knox, No. 10-86 (W.D.N.C. sentencing 10/23/12).
