On 1 April 2009 the new regulation on fathers taking up parental leave came into effect. Until recently, fathers, who are entitled to 10 days of parental leave, had to take up this leave within 30 days after their partner gave birth. This 30 day-period has now been extended to a period of 4 months. The new rule only applies to births on or after April 1, 2009.
