On May 2, 2007, DHS announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations for eligible nationals of Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador would be extended by an additional 18 months. Current TPS designations for Hondurans and Nicaraguans expire on July 5, 2007. The current TPS designation for El Salvadorans expires on September 9, 2007. In accordance with a schedule to be announced in the Federal Register on May 29, 2007, TPS re-registration applications will be processed first for eligible Hondurans and Nicaraguans. Later this summer, USCIS will make an announcement regarding the re-registration process for El Salvadorans. The decision to extend the designations was based on the commitment to continue assisting these countries on their road to recovery from natural disasters.
