The Italian Competition Authority (ICA) again ordered the shutdown of two China-based websites, which cloned original Ray-Ban website and offered counterfeited sunglasses.

ICA stated that the behaviour of the two rogue websites constitutes a misleading and unfair commercial practice, banned by the Italian Consumer Code, since the sites: i) provided misleading information on the nature and characteristics of the products, promoting counterfeits as originals; ii) failed to identify the seller and to list after sale rights; iii) did not provide any legal guarantee in the sale of goods.

With this decision, ICA confirmed once again its commitment to fight online counterfeit by means of consumer protection laws. ICA’s new approach has been recently awarded as 'best practice' within the 'Global Anti- Counterfeiting Awards 2013'.
