This month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services opened the registration and attestation system for the Medicare Meaningful Use Incentive Payment Program for 2016. Eligible providers participating in the Medicare Meaningful Use Incentive Payment Program must attest to the 2016 Medicare Meaningful Use Program requirements by February 28, 2017 at 11:59 PM EST in order to avoid a 2018 payment adjustment. The reporting period was any continuous 90 days between January 1 and December 31, 2016.
Providers should be mindful of the following.
- Providers participating in the Medicaid Meaningful Use Incentive Payment Program should refer to their state’s deadlines for attestation information.
- Providers who are eligible to participate in both the Medicare and Medicaid Incentive Payment Programs must successfully attest to avoid the Medicare payment adjustment. Providers may demonstrate “meaningful use” under either Medicare or Medicaid.
- Providers who cannot successfully attest to the Medicare Meaningful Use Incentive Payment Program may be able to qualify for a Hardship Application.
