The DIS (German Institution of Arbitration) recently presented their new Supplementary Rules for Expedited Proceedings 2008. These Rules supplement the DIS-Arbitration Rules and provide for arbitration in a time frame of nine months in cases involving a three arbitrator tribunal, and within six months for cases with a sole arbitrator.

One significant difference between the Supplementary Rules and the regular DIS-Arbitration Rules is that the time limits for the nomination of arbitrators and the submission of written pleadings are shortened. It is further stipulated that the arbitral tribunal shall, at all times, exercise its discretion to determine the procedure in the light of the parties' interest in expediting the proceedings.
