The new New Zealand Patents Act is one step closer after Commerce Minister Craig Foss announced today that the computer software exclusion would be amended in order to clarify that inventions which are solely due to computer software will not be patentable.  This appears to have satisfied the local software industry, who now appear happy with the Patents Bill.

The next step is the committee stage, which will be followed by a third reading and royal assent.  At this stage there has been no specific time frame indicated by the Government.
