The Commerce Select Committee has called for submissions on the Electronic Transactions (Contract Formation) Amendment Bill. This is a member's bill which provides for an amendment to the Electronic Transactions Act 2002 to confirm that the general rule of contract formation applies to contracts accepted by electronic communications. Under the proposal, "an offer is deemed to be accepted by an electronic communication at the time of receipt of the acceptance by the offeror".

Submissions are due on 27 June 2013 and the committee is due to report back on the Bill by 15 November 2013.
