The ACCC will not oppose the proposal by Bertelsmann SE and CO KGaA and Pearson Plc to combine their global book publishing businesses (Random House & Penguin). The ACCC determined that the remaining publishers would be a likely competitive constraint on the merged firm. For the purpose of considering this transaction, the ACCC did not consider it necessary to form a definitive view on whether there were separate product markets based on book format (printed or electronic) or the sales channel (online or bricks and mortar retailers).
