On March 3, 2011, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) launched the initial phase of E-Verify Self Check on the USCIS website, which allows users to check their employment eligibility status and correct any mismatches between the information they provided and the records of the Department of Homeland Security or the Social Security Administration. The site currently services users located in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, Virginia and the District of Columbia.  

Employers should note that, despite the availability of the “Self Check” feature, they must still verify potential employee’s eligibility at the time of hire.
