A resolution from the executive president of the Nicaraguan Social Security Institute (INSS, in Spanish) approved a 10.04% increase to the maximum amount subject to affiliates' contributions, therefore, effective January 1st, 2019 the maximum salary subject to social security contributions rose to C$ 96,841.56 Córdobas (approximately US $ 2,992.00 dollars) per month.

According to figures published by the Nicaraguan Central Bank, 754,109 INSS affiliates were reported during 2018, of which an estimated of 0.65% corresponds to the higher salary range above referred.

Maximum salaries that are the subject of contributions have been adjusted annually since 2014, applying the annual variation of the affiliates' salary. The maximum pension granted by INSS in favor of their retirees remains at US $ 1,500.00 dollars.
