On May 20, 2009, the Media Bureau released a Public Notice seeking comment on proposals to provide commercial programming services targeted to children on school buses. The Federal Communications Commission is required to prepare a Report to Congress on the issue. In particular, the Commission's Report must examine:

  • The nature of the material proposed to be broadcast and whether it is age appropriate for the passengers;
  • The amount and nature of commercial advertising to be broadcast; and
  • Whether such broadcasts for reception by public school buses are in the public interest.

Comments in this proceeding are due by June 15, 2009, and reply comments are due by June 29, 2009.
