Mr. Clifford Evans, of Abba Scrap Metals Ltd, was badly injured after being pinned against a wall before a bus swung back into him while it was being lifted onto a truck. The bus had been salvaged for parts and was to be taken to a scrap yard to be crushed. As the front of it was lifted using chains attached to an excavator the bus swung outwards striking Mr. Evans.

Methyr Tydfil Magistrates Court heard that the work was badly planned and none of the workers involved were trained to lift vehicles using chains. In addition, Mr. Evans should not have been allowed to stand in a position where he could have been pinned against a wall by the bus.

Abba Scrap Metals admitted to a breach of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations and were fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £8,912 in costs.
