The European Commission has adopted Regulation 213/2008, which updates and revises the EU-wide system of contract classification known as the Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV). Revisions were made following consultation with users in both the private and public sector with a view to ensuring that the CPV is clearer and easier to use. Descriptions of certain goods and services are now covered in greater depth to reflect developments in their respective sectors (e.g. software, medical appliances, airport equipment, sporting goods, musical instruments, environmental services, internet and wireless telecommunication services and defence related equipment and services). The new Regulation will apply from 15 September 2008.
