The European Parliament has adopted and endorsed the European Commission's proposal for a new regulation on insider dealing and market manipulation, the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR).

The European Parliament made a number of amendments to the Commission's text to reflect the political agreement which was reached in trialogue negotiations with the Council of the EU.

Although the European Parliament has now formally endorsed the political agreement with the Council on MAR, this is subject to alignment with the final political agreement on MiFID II. The date on which the new market abuse rules would apply is also to be aligned with that of MiFID II. Once adopted, the regulation will apply from 24 months after its entry into force.
