On August 24th, the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems and the Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions released for comment a report on the over-the-counter derivatives data that should be collected, stored and disseminated by trade repositories. The report addresses minimum data reporting requirements and standardized formats, and the methodology and mechanism for data aggregation on a global basis. The proposed requirements and data formats would apply to both market participants reporting to trade repositories and to trade repositories reporting to the public and to regulators. The report also finds that certain information currently not supported by trade repositories would be helpful in assessing systemic risk and financial stability. The report advocates a system of standard legal entity identifiers as a tool for aggregation of data. IOSCO Press Release.
