On 10 October 2007, the European Commission (Commission) used its powers of investigation under the EC Treaty to carry out an unannounced inspection at the premises of international freight forwarding companies. This is an initial step in a cartel investigation. The freight forwarding industry is concerned with the carriage of goods and matters such as customs clearance, warehousing and ground services. The Commission will investigate whether the companies inspected are carrying out restrictive business practices in contravention of the EU competition rules.
