Lord’s Sugar has lost his bid to recover £50,000 worth of costs from a previous Apprentice winner, Stella English. Stella raised a claim for constructive dismissal which she lost at Tribunal in April.

The original tribunal said the case ‘should never have been brought’ which was reiterated by Lord Sugar’s lawyers however, the East London Tribunal Service rejected the bid and ruled she should not pay any of the costs.

Stella advised the panel she had around £200 in her bank and was considering applying for jobseekers allowance following her exit from Lord Sugar’s IT company, Viglen.

The 2010 Apprentice winner resigned from the Viglen in May 2011 and then felt pressurised into taking up a new position at Lord Sugar`s internet set-top box company YouView, Ms English had told the hearing. Following the unanimous ruling in his favour, he tweeted: "A victory for the law against the claim culture."
