The Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) urged the FTC to closely scrutinize Oracle's proposed acquisition of Datalogix, a consumer data collection company which aggregates and provides insights with respect to  over $2 trillion in consumer spending.
According to the CDD, the acquisition of Datalogix by Oracle, will fundamentally transform marketing automation from executing campaigns to accurately target and identify consumers with digital campaigns, allowing marketers to measure which campaigns and channels are effective, and to optimize how they reach consumers and spend their campaign resources.
For this reason, the CDD argued that the FTC should examine data privacy concerns when considering the competitive aspects of such mergers and acquisitions. As we previouslyreported, in April 2014, the FTC has also examined the acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook, with respect to the potential impact of the consolidation of information on the companies' privacy practices.
