The Center for Digital Democracy urged the FTC to file a complaint against Mobbles, an online gaming and mobile app developer for violating COPPA.  See the complaint here. Coming on the heels of the release of the FTC's second survey on Kids' Mobile Apps (read our 12/10/12 FTC COPPA blog post), this request for an investigation filed by the consumer privacy group should be yet another warning that not only is the FTC is watching, but also numerous other public interest groups and self-annoited watchdogs.  Consumer groups, independent researchers, and class action plaintiffs' attorneys are out there, testing apps, and comparing practices to privacy disclosures.  For more information on the technology the FTC and others are using, what to expect in terms of investigations, and what companies can do to prepare or respond, read our 12/11/12 FTC alert.
