Google offered commitments to the EC to address the enforcers’ abuse of dominance concerns and avoid formal charges.  This followed the EC Competition Commissioner’s statement in May that Google had a “matter of weeks” to offer remedies.  The commission is primarily concerned that Google may be: unfairly promoting its specialist online search services over its competitors’ in general search engine results; displaying its rivals’ specialist search content as if it were its own; engaging in advertisement contracts that may result in “de facto exclusivity”; and restricting advertisers’ ability to move their online advertising campaigns from its platform AdWords to its competitors’ platforms.
