Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the launch of negotiations towards a free trade agreement between Canada and India, entitled "Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement".

The agreement should cover virtually the entire spectrum of the economies of both countries. Negotiations will impact industries such as the following: forest products, mining and minerals, manufactured goods, agricultural products, fish and seafood products, machinery, construction materials and equipment, aerospace, environmental technologies and services, engineering, financial services, life sciences and biotechnology, and information communication technologies.

Canadian and Indian stakeholders alike in these and other sectors should consider how to make the best use of the opportunities that these negotiations may create to address market access issues in their respective sectors.
