Following on from Christine's blog post yesterday, we have been 'warned' that a new Economic Development Bill is to be published next month, with a view to speeding up the planning process (sound familiar?).

Reports indicate that the purpose of the planning references in the Bill will be to reduce the time it takes to obtain planning consent, and make the process easier, through measures including a requirement for further justifications for refusals, introducing new time limits on appeals against planning permission, and tightening the criteria for referring a planning decision for judicial review.

Controversially, the Bill is also expected to make it easier for planning authorities to grant consent for development in the green belt, if other land is re-designated as new green belt in its place.

We will report further on the Bill when it is published.
