A poll undertaken by officebroker.com has found that most employees want a boss who is a “chilled out entertainer”.

The survey concluded that a quarter of employees believe that being able to laugh with their boss is the most important quality a manager can have. Other important qualities included trust, openness in communication, fairness and honesty.

A spokesperson for officebroker.com noted that: ‘many [of the employees questioned] stated they believed that the ability to share a joke with a boss encouraged a culture of openness in the workplace and helped remove formal barriers.’

However, the spokesperson also warned that: ‘a boss who jokes around too much, a David Brent style character, could well risk damaging not only his, but also his employee’s performance, it really is a fine line’.
