On 12 December 2010, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) published a report (dated October 2010) on money laundering using new payment methods (NPMs) (that is, prepaid cards, mobile payments and internet payment services).
The report contains case studies on NPMs and describes a number of indicators of suspicious activity. These indicators are designed to help NPM service providers and financial institutions detect money laundering and terrorist financing activity.
The report concludes that the FATF recommendations are broadly adequate for this purpose but more work could be done on this area.
