Below please find a link to the Baker Hostetler Healthcare Industry Team Report on the 80th Texas Legislature. We have summarized important healthcare legislation that passed during the Regular Session.
Baker Hostetler has a robust Texas health public policy focus, with several attorneys who are registered lobbyists and regularly practice before Texas state agencies. In addition, Baker Hostetler can boast a deep bench on the federal level, punctuated by the recent addition of former Congressman Mike Oxley to the firm's Washington, D.C., ranks. Combined with our Healthcare Industry Team's regulatory experience, our health policy focus allows us to help clients predict changes and respond quickly to new policies developed in response to legislative initiatives.
Following the legislative session, we anticipate that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (THHSC) will be actively moving to draft waivers and reform policies to address the sweeping changes in Medicaid reform. In addition, we anticipate that THHSC will be focusing on the required changes to the disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payment formula, as well as on creating across-the-board consistency in the definition, application and reporting of uncompensated care.
We will continue to follow the rulemaking process and will be working to help clients respond to the specific legislative changes from a compliance perspective. We hope you find this summary useful and that you will call any of the individuals listed in the attached Report with questions regarding its content.
