Colombia's US$ 25 billion highway plan. The government is preparing the next round of highway concessions, launching nine tenders for a value of US$ 6.3 billion in the coming months

  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construction, maintenance and operation of highways. The highways are part of a US$ 25 billion, 40-project plan to build 8,000 km of roads, bridges and tunnels to improve connectivity and competitiveness.

  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: 9 projects planned with an investment of US$ 6.3 billion

Tender for the Barranquilla airport

Colombia's national infrastructure agency (ANI) has postponed the tender to revamp, operate and maintain Barranquilla's Ernesto Cortissoz airport

  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project includes the performance of improvement works at Barranquilla's Ernesto Cortissoz international airport, improvements to the freight and passenger terminals and upgrading the runway and taxiways.
  • CONTRACTING ENTITY: Colombia's national infrastructure agency (ANI)
  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: US$ 173 million
  • STATUS: Bids, initially due on December 15, can now be submitted until December 30.

Bogotá's first metro line

The studies and designs for Bogotá's first metro line have been completed and delivered.

  • PURPOSE: The project includes the construction and designs for Bogotá's first metro line
  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project comprises the construction of the first line of Bogota's metro, which will have an extension of 30 km and 31 stations. The line will be used by around 600,000 people per day and trains will arrive every 90 seconds. This is the first of four lines planned to be built in the next 30 years. Construction of the line will begin in 2015 and is due to be completed by the end of 2018 or early 2019.
  • CONTRACTING ENTITY: Ministerio de Transportes (Ministry of Transport)
  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: US$ 7.35 billion
  • STATUS: A tender will be launched during the first quarter of 2015

2. PERU

Concession for the Longitudinal de la Sierra highway, sections 4 and 5

The private investment promotion agency (ProInversión) will launch two tenders in November for the concession of the Longitudinal de la Sierra highway, sections 4 and 5.

  • PURPOSE: Tenders for the concession of the Longitudinal de la Sierra highway, sections 4 and 5,
  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project consists of carrying out repair and maintenance works in addition to the subsequent maintenance and operation of the sections of road. The concession for the 422 km of road also involves repairs, maintenance and operations over a period of 25 years
  • CONTRACTING ENTITY: Private investment promotion agency (ProInversion)
  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: Section 4: US $250 million: The project involved the construction, operation and maintenance of a 640 km stretch of Peru's Longitudinal de la Sierra highway; and Section 5: US$ 127 million: The project involves the paving, rehabilitation and maintenance of a 423 km stretch of Peru's Longitudinal de la Sierra highway.

Lima underground lines 3 and 4

Peru has awarded a contract to perform pre-investment studies for Lima's No. 3 metro line. The pre-investment studies are to ultimately determine the ideal design and route for Line 3, taking into consideration economic viability factors.

  • PURPOSE: construction of Lima underground lines 3 and 4
  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: These are projects that have similar characteristics to line No. 2 – more than 30k m long and built entirely underground.
  • CONTRACTING ENTITY: Private investment promotion agency (ProInversion)
  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: US$ 10 billion
  • STATUS: ProInversión recently awarded a pre-investment studies contract for line No. 3 and in the coming months will launch pre-investment and viability studies for line No. 4.
  • PROJECT TYPE: Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

Tender for a logistics hub in Callao

ProInversión is due to launch the first tender to carry out technical and economic studies for the project (which involves building logistics areas in Callao to provide parking, storage, packaging, labelling and customs services and sanitary controls)

  • PURPOSE: Tender for a logistics hub in Callao
  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project entails the construction of a logistics hub in Callao to provide parking, storage, packaging, labelling, sanitary controls and customs services. The logistics hub will be located in an area of 33.5 hectares, some 2 km from Callao and 1 km from the Jorge Chávez international airport.
  • CONTRACTING ENTITY: Peru's private investment promotion agency (ProInversión)
  • ESTIMATED INVESTMENT: US$ 100 million
  • STATUS: Once studies are completed, companies will have until May 4 to prequalify for the project. Technical proposals and bids are due on July 10 and the project is expected to be awarded on July 17.
