The recent implementation of California statute AB5 has drastically increased the amount of workers in the state classified as “employees.” This new law makes it much more difficult to classify someone as an “independent contractor,” and is significantly impacting multiple industries, including those within the “gig economy.” Geoff Burr, Radha Mohan and Will Moschella, in a discussion moderated by Mark Begich, discuss the ripple effect AB5 may have in state legislatures and in Washington, and whether the bill’s approach creates more problems than solutions for the state’s rapidly expanding gig economy.
