• The recently published July 2012 Visa Bulletin confirms immigrant visa number unavailability for Indian and Chinese nationals in the second employment-based category (EB-2) reserved for advance degree professionals, as well as retrogression from "current" to January 1, 2009 for EB-2 nationals of all other countries. With "Green Card" waiting times fluctuating from several months to several years and beyond, both family and employer sponsors should initiate permanent immigration proceedings sooner rather than later.
  • Due to the upcoming Summer Olympics, the U.S. Embassy in London has announced limited operations for its nonimmigrant visa (NIV) unit. The office confirmed that NIV interview appointment slots for July 1st through August 17th will become available for scheduling during the week of June 18th, and priority would be given to student/exchange visitor and petition-based (e.g., H-1B, L-1) visa categories. Applicants re-applying for B-1/B-2 visitor visas after refusal within the past six months will only be able to schedule a visa interview appointment after August 17th. As the summer months are generally busy for most U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the world, visa applicants should be prepared for possible delays.
