On 19 July 2013 the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) released a paper discussing the proposed regulation of discretionary investment management services (DIMS) and custodians under the Financial Advisers Act 2008 (FAA). The paper makes a number of proposals which are, in essence, aimed at ensuring that the rules governing the offering of DIMS by corporate and individual financial advisers are consistent (where appropriate), and imposing more stringent requirements on individual financial advisers acting as custodians. Submissions on the proposed regulations are due by 23 August 2013.
