On 17 June 2014, ABC News reported that the VWA has "confirm[ed] [that] it has received a request under section 131 of the Victorian OHS Act to conduct an investigation into alleged risks to health and safety involving nine Australian Football League (AFL) clubs" within Victoria, in relation to supplement usage.

The Age reported that the request followed the release of survey results in October 2013 showing that "at least 12 clubs" conducted sports supplements programs "with medium or high levels of supplement use", with each of them lacking "a single point of accountability". The VWA is reportedly reviewing the request.
