The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation may eliminate the premium discounts given to employers participating in the Drug Free Workplace Program (DFWP). According to the Bureau’s Chief Financial Officer, the Bureau is reviewi ng whether various discount programs, including the DFWP, are actuarially sound and are achieving their goals. Bureau staff recommends eliminating the discounts associated with the DFWP for an approximate savings of $50 million per year. Roughly 6,500 employers currently participate in the program. The Bureau’s Board of Directors has the authority to eliminate or revise its discount programs without legislative approval.
