The mandatory reporting regime is set to change.

The Federal Government has tabled draft legislation that removes the need for food businesses to report food-related death, serious injury or illness to the ACCC under the ACL. The move awaits Parliamentary approval.

However, the mandatory reporting requirements will continue to apply where death, serious injury or illness is related to the packaging for the food and for other (non-food) consumer products. Food businesses will also still have to report food safety matters to State and Territory regulators under Food Acts.
