Greek authorities have been formally requested by the European Commission to review the award of a public service contract for the collection of hazardous waste in Attica. The Commission's reasoned opinion alleges that the Greek contracting authority relied upon the negotiated procedure without call for tender without ensuring that the circumstances justifying the use of the exception procedure were met. Under the rules of procedure for a case of this type (Article 258 TFEU) the Greek authorities now have an opportunity to refute the Commission's allegations.
