Most of the 600,000 currently unemployed Pennsylvanians are educated, and in their working prime, according to a report released by the Department of Labor & Industry.

"This is the first time we profiled the unemployed but we thought it was necessary given the length of breadth of the recession,” said Labor & Industry spokesman, Troy Thompson. “It’s affecting all professions on all levels.”

A statement released by the Department said the report ‘A Profile of Pennsylvania's Unemployed People’ identifies the demographics and geographic distribution of the nearly 600,000 Pennsylvanians who are unemployed. The report presents the basic facts about Pennsylvania's unemployed people, including their demographic characteristics and educational background, where they live, their work histories, and the industries and occupations of their last job.
